Terms of Service
Last updated: June 4, 2025
1. Agreement to Terms
By downloading, installing, or using Summon (“the Application”, “the Service”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service (“Terms”). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use Summon.
2. Description of Service
Summon is an open-source, local-first desktop application developed by Chainlit SAS designed to help developers work with AI agents and Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers. The Application provides tools to:
- Generate MCP client setups from OpenAPI specifications
- Securely manage API credentials locally on your device
- Create and test local mock MCP servers
- Connect to and debug MCP interactions
- Edit and iterate on tool definitions
3. Local-First Architecture
Important: Summon is designed as a local-first application, meaning:
- All your data, configurations, and files are stored locally on your device
- Your API specifications, credentials, and tool definitions never leave your device
- We do not have access to your working data or sensitive information
- API credentials are securely stored using your operating system’s native keychain
4. Data Collection and Privacy
For complete details, please review our Privacy Policy.
5. User Responsibilities
You are responsible for:
- Maintaining the security of your device and local data
- Ensuring you have proper authorization to connect to any APIs or services
- Complying with the terms of service of any third-party APIs you connect to
- Backing up your local configurations and data as needed
- Using the Application in compliance with applicable laws and regulations
6. Acceptable Use
You may not use Summon to:
- Access APIs or services without proper authorization
- Violate any applicable laws or regulations
- Interfere with or disrupt the operation of third-party services
- Attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or extract source code (beyond what’s already open-source)
- Use the Application for any unlawful or harmful purpose
7. Open Source License
Summon’s core functionality is released under an open-source license. You may:
- Review, modify, and distribute the source code according to the license terms
- Contribute to the project development
- Fork the project for your own use
The open-source license terms are available in the project repository and take precedence over these Terms where applicable to the source code.
8. Third-Party Services
Summon may connect to third-party APIs and services based on your configuration. You acknowledge that:
- Your use of third-party services is subject to their respective terms of service
- We are not responsible for the availability, performance, or terms of third-party services
- You must obtain proper authorization before connecting to any third-party service
9. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability
No Warranty
Summon is provided “AS IS” without warranty of any kind. We disclaim all warranties, whether express, implied, or statutory, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, whether incurred directly or indirectly, or any loss of data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses resulting from your use of Summon.
Local Data Responsibility
Since all data is stored locally on your device, you acknowledge that:
- We cannot recover lost data or configurations
- You are responsible for backing up your local data
- We are not liable for any data loss or corruption on your device
10. Future Service Changes
We are planning to introduce optional cloud features in the future, including team collaboration and enhanced observability features. When we do:
- We will update these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy
- We will provide clear notice of changes and new data collection practices
- The local-first approach will remain the default option
- You will have clear choices about using cloud features
11. Changes to Terms
We may modify these Terms from time to time. When we make changes:
- We will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page
- For significant changes, we may provide additional notice within the Application
- Your continued use of Summon after changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms
12. Termination
You may stop using Summon at any time by uninstalling the Application. Since all data is stored locally, uninstalling the Application will remove it from your device, but you remain responsible for any local data or configurations you’ve created.
13. Geographic Considerations
Summon is designed to work globally, but you are responsible for ensuring your use complies with local laws and regulations in your jurisdiction, particularly regarding:
- API access and usage
- Data processing and storage
- Import/export restrictions on software
14. Intellectual Property
- The Summon name, logo, and branding are our intellectual property
- The open-source code is governed by the applicable open-source license
- You retain all rights to your data, configurations, and content created with Summon
